i like you, do you like me?

Wednesday Morning I woke bright and early ready for the day ahead only to discover a big zit on my chin. Of course! It was bound to happen! It was the day of my blind date.

Some of you may recall this post a while back when I admitted to resorting to doing locality searches online to try and track down possible new friends. Well it just so happens that the first time the very talented Cath (who only lives an hour away from me) discovered me was via that post. She proceeded to stalk me online, leaving a comment here or there, sussing me out as she went. Then we started emailing each other, and I had my turn at stalking her a little bit in return.

Eventually, when we realised we had a mutual friend (and therefore had a third party to vouch that neither of us were psycho’s) we started to plan to meet up.

Wednesday was the day; the day our internet dating turned to a blind date.

To be precise it was in fact a double date. Cath was bringing a friend of hers (Miss E), and I was bringing our mutual friend (Miss K).

I left home, driving to Miss K’s place where we were both going to jump in her car and drive to the nearby town to our date. Only I (despite Mr You’s many attempts at teaching me to “just be cool”) for some unbeknown reason left my house 40 mins too early! Therefore arriving too early, so I detoured via an Op Shop for a bit of a poke around to use up the extra time.

The rest, thankfully, went according to plan.

We sat on the veranda of a lovely café, munching on yummy tart and salad, chatting about art, craft, weddings, babies… you get the idea. It was brilliantly girly, and we laughed alot. Cath, Miss E and Miss K (who are incidentally all actually Mrs’s) each have a daughter aged within 6 months of each other, so they were able to talk about their babies, share stories and tips. I did my very best not to divulge my mortal fear of lactating… I’m pretty sure I managed to keep my face from grimacing during the breastfeeding conversations. I also did my best to not compare my fur-baby-cat to their human babies, despite her recent bout of spewing and missing the toilet (my poor Tilli was sick last week).

In the car on the way home Miss K apologised about all the baby talk, but I actually didn’t mind at all. It’s really comforting (especially because I have no family anywhere nearby) to know that when my time comes to become a mother, there’s a community of fantastic Mum’s already around me, that I’ll be able to turn to for advice.

We all had so much in common, realising that we’d lived only a suburb apart in Sydney, or we were at the same university together at the same time, or that we’ve had our wares in the same stores.

So despite me being a bit shy on the day, it felt SO good to finally meet like-minded, same-aged, fun to be around people.

So Cath, and Miss E (I know you’re probably going to read this. Which is actually a bit weird in itself… now is probably a good time to reconsider this blog being completely anonymous) … anyway, thanks so much for taking the time and the chance to meet up for real, and for being so welcoming.

Best blind date I ever had!

That is such a funny story. I've had so many internet dates in the last year and met so many lovely crafty girls, it has just been amazing. Good on you for taking the plunge (and listening to the breastfeeding stories)!

Yay for new friends! Now I have to magically get rich, buy a plane ticket and crash that guest room of yours. It'll happen, someday...One can dream.

Oh yeah, and if you ever decide that you want to leave your tropical paradise and come to freezing New England, you can totally stay with me, HA!

Hello Flossy!!!
How funny- reading about our date online.hehehehe...I was also meaning to say sorry for all the talk of babies and breastfeeding- but it did provide a nice segway into the homebirth / recorder story so it was worth it..tried really hard not too... I thought you were lovely too and was very excited that it all went well. Hooray! see you soon, with the men folk...

you know, there is an albuquerque blogger here who keeps trying to hook up with me - and although i am absolutely certain she is nothing but nice and she seems totally cool, i just keep chickening out about meeting up. i always say i am not a shy person, but i think i may only be fooling myself. hmmm, your happy story is persuading me though. i'm so glad you found a new friend!

and on a more creepy note, i had a dream about you and Mr. You the other night. weird, i know. you both resembled two characters in a movie we watched the night before (nick and nora's infinite playlist) and you were getting married in an amusement park here in ABQ - i was the photographer. and after the wedding, rather than going on a honeymoon, you came back to my house and cooked lemon bars with me. it was a good dream. want to get married at Uncle Cliff's amusement park in ABQ? i'll bring refreshments.

So glad there are other people in the world who have to carefully watch their facial expressions around baby talk! Either I grimace or I start to hyperventilate at the thought of experiencing these things some day.
