five faves on a friday

A collection of five favourite things I've seen this week...
( Playing along with Pip )

1. Aether-Art
AetherArt

Discovering a dear friend of mine now has a blog! And it's a beautiful one too...

2. The SeaPelt
SeaPelt

When Mr You gave me a slanket for my birthday last year I thought it was the best thing ever. Surely the best in the category of lounge-wear! But ladies and gentlemen, I think The SEAPELT may give it a damn good run for it's money!!! (mostly because it's got FEET!!!) HOW GOOD ARE THEY!!????

(Found via Handmade Romance)

3. Popcorn Pincushion
KootooyosPopcornPincushion

There's a handmade pincushion swap circulating at the moment, and lots of crafty gals are out there sewing up some pincushion wonders. But when I spotted Kootoyoo's entry this week, I was blown away!!!! She even made pins to match!!!
I don't know, I haven't seen them all, and I know, I know, this type of thing isn't meant to be competitive in anyway... but surely hers pops the pants off the rest! C'mon!

4. Smart Move Tape
SmartMovingTape

Yup, we've started packing, and surely I don't have to remind you how seriously un-fun it is. Nevertheless, this smart move tape caught my eye this week. Every mundane task can be made more fun by some bright supplies! (a-hem, excuse the Martha-ness of that last sentence).

5. Walls, white or bright?
WhiteWalls

To keep myself motivated whilst packing, I'm dreaming of painting walls. I've been thinking of white. Clean white, warmed up by the pale wooden floors our new house has. Light, sunny, clean, open and airy.

But then I popped into Jan's house very quickly for the first time last weekend, and was enamoured by the bright colourful walls in her gorgeous house. Bold, saturated, fulfilling and arty.

Now I'm tossing up between white or bright...

Or maybe a bit of both...

through the door

I've been wanting to join in Pip's "My Place and Yours" for a little while now, but this week I actually have something good to contribute... Stuff I've been wanting to show off ;)
This weeks theme (by Shelley from Femme De Montmartre) is "Through the Front Door".

Outside our front door we are now greeted by turtles. We didn't buy each other wedding gifts, instead we bought ourselves these adorable hand carved turtles on our honeymoon. See? Two turtles, swimming together, hanging onto each other... get it? Romantic eh? hehehehe.
Anyway, they give our house a new tropical beachy look, it's prefect to lead us into Summer.

Turtles

And just inside the front door... the super cool retro buffet we got at a garage sale on the weekend! For $10! It's in excellent condition, and if we do end up updating the handle, and painting the inside a bright colour (as we had planned) its going to help Mr You's smaller instruments stand out very well, and look even more cool. (Although it's in such good condition I'm not sure I want to tamper with it... but a deep red inside would look pretty impressive).

retro buffet

Of course when a new piece of furniture comes into the house, it sparks rearranging, impromptu cupboard clean-outs, etc.
An unexpected mini Spring clean!

eight is more than enough

A little while ago the lovely Brenda tagged me with the "eight is enough" meme. I'm supposed to list eight answers in each category, but quite frankly, and perhaps a little pathetically, there just isn't that much going on in my life. In my opinion "eight is way too much". So I'm going to do the unthinkable and bend the memeular rules a little.

GASP!

I know! Stand back people, this could get messy. ;)

*pow*smack*kadzook*kapow*scuffle*crunch*slap*swoosh*bang*

Phew, there, cut to size. Behold...

The Three is Plenty meme!

Eight Three TV shows/movies I watch regularly:
1. Dexter (starts again this week!)
2. So You Think You Can Dance (seriously addicted)
3. The Mighty Boosh (always cheers me up)

Eight Three things that happened yesterday:
1. I finished reading the final ever Harry Potter book, finally! Now I can stop blocking my ears and "laa-laa-laaring" when it comes up in conversation.
2. I decided I would enter every single online competition I could find to try and win a holiday so that Mr You and I can have a nice honeymoon somewhere later in the year. But then I got lazy and didn't enter any.
3. We went and got thai takeaway for dinner and ate it at a picnic table overlooking the beach at dusk.

Eight Three favourite places to eat:
Favourite Places To Eat
1. Beachstone Cafe (best coffee around these parts)
2. Emma's On Liberty (quaint little Lebanese place in Sydney)
3. The Lodge (in Bellingen, for good food, scenery and ambiance)

Eight Three things on my wish list:
Wish List for Meme
1. I wish this so-called anti-wrinkle cream I'm slathering myself in twice a day would hurry up and work already! (huh, fool)
2. I wish shoes as gorgeous as these came in my garden-gnome-foot-size
3. I wish/hope more great bands come to play up this way soon

Eight Three things I'm looking forward to:
1. Getting a new camera... once I've found a moment of sanity long enough to decide on one
2. Going to our friends wedding in April; a whole weekend where we all stay at a lovely old guesthouse together
3. Seeing my dad and his family for the first time in five years (also in April). They have been living in Northern Ireland, but are coming back for a holiday.

Eight Three people I tag:
1. Equipoise
2. CurlyPops
3. Anna
...eight things or three things, I don't mind... depends on how exciting your lives are :)

Thank-you Brenda! I hope you didn't mind me blatantly bending the rules :)

eye-spy a burst of colour

EyeSpySunday_BttnWith so many possibilities for eye-spy it took me a while to settle on one for this week. But I have narrowed it down and chosen: "Eye-Spy a burst of colour".

Colour where it isn't expected. A tiny bit of colour peeping through the grey. A contrast of colour against the rest. A brave choice of colour that stands out in your wardrobe. Or just so much colour you can hardly bare it. :D

Come, play along, go to eye spy to join in on Sunday.

random runout

I've been tagged by Nomes, Ashley , Cate, with the "6 Random Things" meme. I've done this one a few times now, and although I still try to come up with stuff, I'm sorry to say that right now I'm so "randomed" out that I feel very normal and boring in fact... I just don't have anything interesting to share.

But, don't worry, I have a plan...

6 Random Things

The Rules:
1. Link to the person who tagged you. (Nomes + Ashley + Cate)
2. Mention the rules. (check)
3. Tell six quirky yet boring, unspectacular details about yourself.
4. Tag six other bloggers by linking to them.
5. Go to each person's blog and leave a comment that lets them know they've been tagged.
6. Let the person who tagged you know when you've written the post.

So here we go...
6 Random Things About My Parter in Crime; Mr You.
(After all, they say you can tell alot about a person by the company they keep)

1. He's the son of a fisherman, he tells me stories of sick days home from primary school having to sleep on a little matress on the floor of the fish co-op that his parents owned. The smell has remained with him (in his memory, not physically thank god)... He doesn't like seafood very much as a result.

2. Cats and children LOVE him. We used to have to factor an extra 15 minutes when we were walking somewhere to give all the neighbourhood cats time to come and say hello to him. The same thing happens with children, usually our friends kids, but sometimes complete strangers too. We'll be sitting in a cafe and the next minute there's a little kid coming right up to him for a bit of a chat, 30 seconds later they're best friends. It's the strangest thing. Like he's got some "Santa" quality to him or something (despite being quite slim and not having a beard).

3. There isn't a day that goes by without him failing to cite some nostalgia for the "great decade that was the 1980's". It took him a while to cotton on that I had turned this quirk into a joke. I now call him Uncle Rico.

4. Despite that, he is one of the smartest people I know. Either that or he remembers every fact he's ever heard. His team always wins at trivia. He credits this intelligence to Billy Joel's We Didn't Start the Fire. Apparently everything you'll ever need to know is in that song.

5. One of his really good friends (that he's known for years) became a very famous "rock star" internationally in the last 5 years. It's very surreal seeing him everywhere. They've since lost contact, and although Mr You would love to let him know that he's really happy and proud for him, he worries that calling him now would seem like he's just being a bit of a groupy. He doesn't tell people about this, because name dropping is wanky.

6. He very recently found out that he is an 8th Aboriginal. At first I think it was a bit of a tid-bit, but now it's starting to sink in more and I think in future years he will really feel an urge to research the family line more deeply. We've been watching the "First Australians" TV series on SBS, and are both left speechless afterwards.

- - -

Thanks taggers! That was fun :)

Now I tag.. um has anyone not done this yet? Or wants to do it again? Leave me a comment and I'll tag you :)

And in case you're curious here are lots of random things about me.

on my walls

I've been tagged by esti to play along with a great meme "on my walls". So here goes...

Big windows dominate the wall space in our house, and the view demands attention...

Big Window

Sometimes the outside shines inside and the shapes from the garden share the walls...

Garden Shadows

Because we live in a rented house, with freshly painted walls, I haven't been game to hammer in hooks to my hearts content just yet. I've been adding 1 picture at a time inbetween each rental inspections, hoping they won't notice if I do it gradually, hehehe. In the meantime we have lots of shelves, and that's how we decorate our walls at the moment.

Dining Room
Ceramic lady head by Wendy Littlewood. Cherry tree print by Rania from Gosh Darn Knit. Resigned Drummer original by Troglodyte Mignon. Clear Thoughts print by Beth Berst. Cosby Sweater Man original by Leah Felicity Budin. Quiet Forest print by Ashley Goldberg.

I find the house itself, and the tree soaked surroundings dictates the earthy woody style within. Don't you think each house decides its own decorating style? I do...

KittyTeaCup
This is the picture in our bedroom, the first thing I see each morning. Yes, that makes me VERY happy. This is an original painting called "tea time" by Amy Huddleston.

DKBarton
Tiny picture by Del Kathryn Barton.

Green Shelves

Music Room
My print by Matty8080 sits in the music room. I think he likes it there :)

SquareShelves
We have a huge set of square shelves that hold SO much stuff. Books, trinkets and art or course. These 2 squares feature a gorgeously detailed original called "White Flags" by Abigail Halpin. And also a lovely print by Dan-ah Kim

My front room/studio/office is a little different. Cleaner, lighter, more breezy...

Deer Etching

Dandelions
Dandelions print by Penelope Dullaghan.

Bird Tree

And if I look up from my computer screen, this is what I see...
PostCards

If you've ever sent me something it's probably there (look closely). Mind you there's quite a few nooks I have not shown here. So if you know I have a piece of your art, never fear, it is framed and sitting in some pretty corner of my house. And I thank-you for that :)

As you can probably tell I really have to restrain myself when it comes to buying other peoples art. I would have hundreds if I could. I do not have any of my own work hanging on my walls. I'm still considering it though.

_ _ _

So, I now tag:
- Bec from The Small Stuff
- Sarah from Geek+Nerd
- Hila from the newly renamed Lumiere

_ _ _

p.s. Only one more day to sign up for the give-away. I'll be announcing the winners tomorrow afternoon.

crossing the meme beam

On Tuesday I was separately tagged by Alexandra and Jesska with the very same meme!

Egon warned the other Ghostbusters that crossing the Proton Beams may cause "total protonic reversal" which is apparently very bad... Turns out it was the only was they were able to vanquish the giant Marshmallow Man in the end. Huh! Interesting.

So, with that litmus test done, I guess my being simultaneously caught by the crossing of two Meme Beam's won't necessarily end in disaster right?... Maybe I'll let you be the judge of that.

------------

Here are the rules:

1. Link to the person who “tagged” you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post.
5. Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know your entry is up.
------------

6 Random Things About Me (I'm not doing 12)

1. I'm allergic to canaries

2. While face-painting at a fair once, a little boy asked me to paint his face like the back of a bus. I did, he was thrilled, his parents looked embarrassed. Be careful what you say around your kids people :)

3. My naturopath step-mother used to give me carob easter eggs. As a kid that was pretty devastating. But now I'm completely addicted to carob and would love to have all those eggs given to me these days :)

4. Following on from the previous point, I'm not into carob because I'm healthy - ho ho ho, no sir. It's only because I don't have a sweet tooth. I love dark chocolate and cake, but I can't bear to eat lollies or sugar filled chocolate. They're way too sweet for me.

5. Both my Dad and my Sister can raise one eyebrow. I cannot. I've taken photo's of myself when I thought I was doing it, only to see that my face looked normal, if not a little constipated.

6. Mr You claims I have lesbian seagull arms. No, I don't know what this means either (apparently it's a reference to a song). I just assume he means that they like each other very much and can sniff out a hot chip from miles off. As far as arms go, I'd say those are pretty handy traits for them to have. (no pun intended).

----------------------

Six people I am tagging:
- Victoria
- Anastasia
- Hila
- girl ferment
- Melanie
- Esti

(I've tried to choose people I haven't tagged with this meme before, so apologies if you have been).

Thanks Alexandra and Jesska! :D

about blogging

I've been tagged by the lovely Melanie from Kimono Reincarnate.

1. Why did you start your blog?

That’s simple; to participate in Illustration Friday of course. I think I participated in IF for 18 months straight at the beginning, and in that time only missed 3 or 4.

I was a chronic lurker, addicted to many many blogs for a long time before I mustered enough courage to start one of my own. I was really unhappy with work/life at the time, it was all consuming. Starting a blog was a way for me to start re-connecting with my creative side, which I had previously banished for years. I was terrified about starting art again, and knew I’d be very rusty and not very good at all, but I had to start somewhere. I created a space where no-one knew what I was doing, I was just another face in the crowd, and I could allow myself the time/space to be bad at painting for a while without worrying about people I knew judging me (which I knew would cripple any progress I hoped to make).

2. How did you come up with your blog name?
Because I wanted to hide my identity I needed a name that was personal to me without using my own name at all. I thought back through nick-names I’d been given, and this one is one I never really ever mentioned to anybody, but one I never forgot. If you want I have more of an explanation here.

3. Do your friends and family know about your blog? What do they think about it?

No. Not at all. Sensitive topic this one… As I mentioned I needed a place of healing to rebuild, and hiding away has always been my best defense mechanism. I didn’t tell anyone, I didn’t even tell Mr You for the first couple of days. I loved it! I loved having a place of my own to escape to.
Nowadays it’s a different story. I’m in an awkward position where I’ve been doing it so long it almost feels like I’m betraying my friends and family by not telling them. Every now and then I consider outing myself because I’d love them to share it now that I’ve moved away from them all, but I worry that I would sensor my posts, or become self conscious of my illustrations.
I did tell one of my closest friends about a year ago (test case), at first she thought I was mad having a blog, but now I think she’s gotten used to the idea, and I know she visits from time to time, although I forget that she does. She thinks it’s no big deal and I’ve no need to hide it so much.
I’ll have to out myself eventually. I just don’t know how to go about it. I absolutely dread the day, but know I’ll feel great relief once it’s done and out, and the dust has settled.

4. How do you write posts?

Early on, when I had to make up for the bad illustrations I used to write a lot more. Everything in my “real life” day was liable to be snatched and snuck back to my secret blog life. I remember seeing things and immediately starting to write an introduction in my head. My daily commute on the train was a treasure-trove of inspiration. It was more humourous back then too. Since leaving work and working from home I don’t get out as much, and I’ve noticed my blog reflecting that, now it’s all about my creative obsession.
Although “I’m going to blog that” is still an invaluable weapon to threaten Mr You with. Hehehe.

5. Have you ever had a troll or had to delete unkind comments?

Yes, early on I got some comments disputing some of my opinions and facts. One even called me a fool if I remember correctly. Mind you I researched their point and I'm still sure I was right. I never deleted their comments.

6. Do you check your stats? Do you care how many people read your blog? If you do care, how to you increase traffic?
Are you kidding? I check my stats every week. I love stats! I love seeing where people are visiting from, and I can even see when people have “borrowed” my whole page code and are looking at the code from their desktops.
I was able to see that a forum of Turkish folk were discussing my illustrations at one point (not that I knew what they were saying). And I LOVE seeing what search phrases people have used to stumbled on my sites: “oh won't you be our house guest flossie unicorn” Why, sure!

I don’t really mind about how many people visit, it goes up and down. Comments always mean more to me than hits.

7. What kind of blogs/posts interest you?

Obviously I love beautiful art/illustration blogs. I love finding like minded people. And creative types. I love people who write beautifully, or are funny. Now… does that leave any untouched? I’m not big on nerdy techy ones, that’s too much like work to me.

8. What do you like and dislike about blogging?
The best thing about blogging is of course the people/friends you find. I treasure the strong sense of community, I think it’s changing our world.
I dislike… um, how much time I spend doing it; either posting, or reading others. I love it, but it eats up my time in volumes that shame me.

I tag:
I'm not sure how many people I'm suppose to tag for this one. I'll choose 3.
3 relatively new visitors to this blog, who all seem mighty nice, and who I'd like to get to know better...
- Jacinta of One Little Acorn
- Bec of The Small Stuff
- Michelle of Leni & Rose

five random things by proxy

Hello, Mr You here. Flossy has been tagged by Isay.

As she has already done this a few times a mental block has been hit in her prickly pumpkin patch mind. So I have agreed to be a guest blogger and list a few random things about her from my refreshing perspective.

Firstly I kind of view these things a bit like 21st century chain letters, which in the 20th century - when i got one - i cut into a hundred pieces, pulped over night, blended, dried in the shape of blob for a few weeks and then burnt in the BBQ on the next full winters moon. No 7 years bad luck mojo gunna get me on that one. Don't get me started on pyramid marketing.. no i really don't need 10 tubs of 20 kg hi-concentrate dish washing powder.

Anyways here are 5 random factoids about this blogs heroine.

1) Her belly button looks like a unique smiley happy emoticon.

Its like a really big cartoon smile with one eye throwing up the massive-est of winks. Kind if like this ;) but the right way up and way more tweaked out. Its v-cute and a good friend i must say.

2) When she was 2 her parents moved to Ireland to try and live for a year. (thats not the fact)

While there she carelessly tripped in her grandma's yard on a clothes peg, her forehead landing and splitting on the edge of an aged concrete stair. Ouch. The scar of which can be seen residing in a bed-sit above her left eye to this day. ** ***

** this may explain her matching coloured peg fetish which has been mentioned before i believe.
*** details may not be factual. she may have been looking for a peg?

3) flossy-p has denied Mr You the freedom to make what was previously listed for #3 public to the world. It was WAY too embarrassing, and some of his facts were embellished which made it even worse. It started with the line...

It was on the back of a flat bed truck in Australia's most famous "gay" street. It was lunch time on hot summers day...
And ended with... Oh i wish i had seen that one.
And although I got a good laugh out of it, for the sake of our friendship that's all you're gonna know!
(as a trade-off I will let it be known that for some unknown reason I rub my tummy as I brush my teeth - have no idea why and am usually not conscious of it).

4) Her toe nails are peculiarly rectangular.

I would say they are the shape of old television screens, kind of elliptical rectangles. I imagine they are hard to cut. So small and so distracting when Bold and the Beautiful appears on them mid snip. Damn that Sally and her meddling ways.

5) Has no real middle name.

Her father decreed she would haf no tween name as he did not. I find this very frustrating as it severely limits the names i can make up and call her. Being a true post-renaissance man i have composed, over the years my very own middle name for her. Its quite good, more of a sonnet really and on last count has 11 words and 21 syllables. Its been so successful that some members of my family now refer to her with elements of it. Theres a formula to it too, if you need to make your own.

6) ...oh i could go on forever.

Regards,
Ramsis F. Yousef

p.s i will hand back to flossy to propagate this

p.s.s i don't really view meme's that harshly, im just bitter i dont gots any of these nice bloggy friends shes does.

heh-heh, thanks Mr You!!!! But, a-hem, you forgot to choose 5 of my nice bloggy friends to tag (or threaten with 7 years bad luck)  ;)

15 things

eeeeee-heheheheheheheheheheheheheheeeee

Sorry I’ve got the giggles. Why? My sweet friend Rania over at GoshDarnit has just tagged me with the “5 Things” meme. (hehehehe). This boomerang just keeps on coming back at me, so I’m now up to “15 things”. Can you bear it? Can you cope learning even more trivial tid-bits about lil-ol’me? I just can’t say no. So without any further a due, here’s my (what’s quickly becoming a weekly column) 5 things:

1) I am what people refer to as a “short-ass”. I don’t only have a short ass, I have a whole short body. It only goes up as far as 5 feet and 1 inch.

2) Mr You is 6 foot 2, so there’s more than a foot of height difference between us. We were once at a waterfall lookout and turned around to catch a family of Scottish tourists pointing at us behind our backs and making hand gestures about the difference in our heights. They blushed as red as their hair when they saw that we had seen them. I’m pretty sure I blushed too.

3) I also have tiny feet. I spent all of my uni years with masking tape around my ankles to stop my socks from sliding off my feet. I’ve since discovered children’s socks, so my sock drawer is now filled with puppy dogs and teddy bears and pokemon. Luckily I wear boots to hide them in Winter.

4) My foot is the same length as Mr You’s hand, and my middle finger is the same length as Mr You’s big toe.

5) When I was a child and my mum told me she was pregnant I remember her asking me if I would prefer a little brother or a little sister. I asked if she could please have a big sister for me. I had a sister, and despite the 5 year age difference it didn’t take long for her to become taller than me, so I got my wish after all.

Now, if I haven’t tagged you already, and you haven’t already done this one, consider yourself tagged by me. (Let me know so I can claim the credit – hehehe)

Rules are:
1. someone tags you,
2. you post five things about yourself that you haven’t already mentioned on your blog,
3. you tag people you’d like to know more about.

finishing 5 things

Here I am, catching up, finishing the 5 Things meme from below thanks to Rayne and Leah...

4) Rayne asked...
"Here is a question for you- What is the scariest/bravest thing you have ever done?"

Ooo, good one. Ummm. I’d say the bravest thing that affected the outcome of my life the most was when I moved out of home and put myself through the final year of high school and then onto University, without any financial assistance from my parents.
My Mum’s partner was going through a bad patch in his life when we moved in with him. He didn’t know how to deal with stuff and ended up becoming a violent, angry, abusive, drunken man. It took me a few years but eventually I found a way out. One of my biggest regrets is that I couldn’t take my 12 year old sister with me.

He has since learned the error of his ways, he's reformed, kind, loving, and he and my Mum are very happy. For a long time I felt very bad things about my Mum for this, but now I believe she showed a great sense of trust, love and honour in him, to see beyond all the hurtful things and all that fury. From her I learnt to show defiance, vigilance, strength and push for what you believe is true.

5) Leah asked...
"Hm, ok, question for you...what is your dream for yourself and your life?"

Geez, that’s a really hard one. This is going to sound so cheesy, but…

I guess the bigger picture dream is happiness, a sense of satisfaction, trying to be proud of how I live and what I make of things, being surrounded by people and things I love.

In terms of a 5 year plan… I’ve never been able to do one of those, I'm so bad at making decisions, but I’ve also always just liked the idea of having faith that I’ll go the way I’m suppose to. But now I’m 30 the next 5 years will probably need some planning at some point (if you catch my gist).

Thank you so much Rayne and Leah, I couldn’t have done it without you! :D
Oh, and Rayne, no we don't have air conditioning :(

Now, who to tag…
Leah from Creative Everyday (have you done this before?)
Isay From Meaningful Undertakings
Regina from Creative Kismet
Sandra from The Mighty Sally
Victoria from Dear Megan

boomerang

The lovely Leslie from Onegirl has tagged me with the "5 things" meme. I was so excited to be tagged that I forgot I’ve already done this one, it's boomeranged and come back at me. I still want to do it but the only things I can think of to expose are not very juicy…

1) I’ve just sent an email in the hope of being able to get in on Leah’s 100 Faces postcard swap. Check it out, it’s such a cute idea, you might like to be part of it too.

2) I’m up to the final week of The Artists Way, however I’ve been paused now for about 3 weeks. If I’m reading a book that I really enjoy I sometimes pause on the last chapter for ages just to prolong the book. Mind you I think this time it’s more a defence mechanism. What if I finish the whole Artists Way and I’m still no better than I was before????

3) I started a new regime last week and went for an hour long walk every morning; for fitness and for motivation in the mornings (a weak point for me). I took photos along my walk to prove it (evidence that I didn’t just walk around the corner and lie down under a shady tree for an hour – hee).

I can’t think of anything else to tell you…
How about for numbers 4 and 5 you ask me something? I don’t know, is there anything you want to know about me but have been too afraid to ask? Now’s your chance. You’ll be helping me to finish this wee meme, go ooooon.

five bits

I really want to post, but I can’t think of anything to say… I was going to attempt the 5 secrets thing (expressed so well here and here), but I can’t even think of 5 secrets I’m willing to share with the world.

So maybe a few tid-bits will suffice:

1. I am not obsessive compulsive but I do have my moments. I can’t hang clothes on the line unless the colour of the pegs match. They don’t have to match the article of clothing, just each other. So 2 white pegs, 2 pink pegs, or 2 blue pegs, you get the gist. I’ve often contemplated going monochrome in my peg collection to cut down the amount of time it takes me to rummage through the peg bag to find the perfect pair, but that would take all the fun out of it.

2. The by-line on my header up there is still true. I can’t knit. Eeeek. I know I’m most ashamed to admit this as I fear a backlash from the mass of knitters out there. My Granny taught both my sister and I how to knit, but mine always ended up all tight and stuck on the needle with my hands in cramps. Then when I wanted to join Brownies my Mum told me they made you knit a square as your entrance exam so therefore I wouldn’t be able to join. I still to this day don’t know if that was true or if the cost of joining (or the uniform) was too expensive for her and just fibbed to stop me joining.

3. I’m allergic to wool (another one I fear admitting for the risk of being kicked off the internet all together). I break out in hives. So I have to wear wool over something else so it doesn’t touch my skin, or switch to acrylic. Even as a baby I couldn’t lie on the soft lambs wool baby rug. When I told a friend this she nearly cried.

4. Ummm, well you already know how no-one knows about my blog (only Mr You). Yep, nobody I know in real life. Well… due to this I’ve created an identity problem for myself. I have started a new site for my new endeavours under my real name which links to my Etsy store, this is what I have recently shared with friends and family. When they ask me how I came up with the name flossy-particles I just make up some crap about things being pretty and flossy, as I still want to protect my blog and keep it secret. But I have a mortal fear that one day someone will do a search or something, find my blog and oust it to everyone else.

5. Because of this if you buy something from my Etsy store you’ll get an email signed with my real name (which is not mentioned anywhere on this blog). It delights me that even though this happens, people still reply to me as Flossy or Alice!
I LOVE that! ...and want to thank-you for it.

favourite fours

Ooooo, lil kim tagged me! I’ve never been officially tagged before, how exciting (well for me that is, you may find it long-winded and boring). But what the hell, here goes…

4 jobs I have had:
- My first job ever was selling entry tickets at the Museum of Fire
- While at uni I had a very cool job working for a ceramic artist, helping to make her market range of items while she concentrated on her gallery items. I would make plates, platters and bowls out of clay, she would draw her art on the fired ones, and then I would take them home and paint the glazes on them. It paid terribly, but was a wonderful job.
- On the side I did the odd face painting at fetes, and hair wraps at markets.
- At the job I just left I was a Senior Web Producer (which is a wanky way of saying I was a project manager at a web design company who had been there long enough to become senior)

4 movies I could watch over and over:
Mr You and I are hopeless when it comes to movies, we hardly ever go and see them and we don’t have a DVD player. The movies I watch over and over again are old videos taped off the TV that are all about 15 years old. But if I could watch a movie over and over again I’d choose:
- Lost in Translation
- Frida
- Amalie
- okay, for the last one I’m going to be brave and be honest… Dirty Dancing (eeek blush – lost some cred there didn’t I?). My sister and I watched our video of this soooo many times when we were young that her pink dress in the last scene is now white. We can recite almost the entire thing, And I remember not having any idea what “knocked-up” meant and I thought she’d just fallen up the stairs and hurt herself. We have the same nostalgic obsession with Mystic Pizza too. (oh dear, so much credibility just crumbled away into dust).

4 places I have lived (apart from where I am now):
- Townsville, far north Queensland - tropical (I spent my childhood years there, and now associate my childhood with wonderful warm tropical memories)
- The Blue Mountains, west of Sydney NSW - bushy (I spent my early teen years there, then came back later when I moved out of home)
- Penrith, western suburbs – suburban hell (horrible place where at the time everyone my age wore tracksuits and sneakers and were only interested in cars and footy, and I was abused each afternoon on my way home for looking different to them)
- Various suburbs in the inner west area of Sydney (As soon as I finished school I moved to the city and went to uni – ahhh. I love it here, different cultures, an array of foods, and houses that come from another time)

4 TV shows I love:
- Buffy (yes I’m one of those)
- Northern Exposure (It’s been a lifetime since I’ve seen this show, but I remember it with great fondness)
- You’re going to laugh at this one… Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (the US version, we lost it to the Australian counterpart though, which was soooo bad it only lasted 2 shows before it was axed. Just the intro music used to make me clap and cheer with excitement. I’ve never had a custom ringtone on my phone, but that very nearly made it)
- um…. None of those shows are on TV anymore, I’m trying to think of one that is…. Nope, I can’t think of one, so I’ll end with Pokemon. I LOVED Pokemon.

4 places I have been for a vacation:
- All the capital cities in Australia, except Darwin and Hobart
- Fiji
- Portugal (and a fair few other countries in EU)
- Ireland (and the UK)

4 websites I visit daily:
- my blog
- craftzine
- indie quarter
- five and a half

4 favourite foods:
- vegetables
- tomato
- cashews
- cake

4 places I would rather be:
- Turkey
- Morocco
- walking along a beach
- on a boat floating in calm water on a sunny day

4 people I am tagging:
This meme has been doing the rounds for a while (although I’ve never done it before), but I’m trying to think of others who haven’t either…. apologies if you have already. I hereby tag:
- Danielle
- Robin
- Jen from IslandArts
- And since she’s on a roll: Faun
